I've Been Sewing

I have been procrastinating, sewing for the last week and it didn't seem like I had much to talk about. Now that I have decided I should do a post even if it is short it seems that I have more to say than I thought.
Ian came back with his moose tag and with the help of his Dad and Uncle Tom managed to take a moose home this trip.  They were out Thursday, Friday and finally midday Saturday were successful.Ian stayed until Monday meeting with a fellow at the Mosaic mine as a part of his new job.
Wednesday Lynn arrived for a few days of sewing.  It was fantastic.  She worked on quilt tops.

I worked on tea cosies.  I had delivered mitts to HMH the last time I was in the city but hadn't made any cosies for the Christmas season. I spent the better part three days making cosies to send with Lynn.  After Lynn left with the tea cosies I had a pent up need to work on quilts.  I pulled out some squares I had cut out about last Feb. before I had to pack for the move.  I now have a toddler quilt in size and colour ready for quilting.  I am also in the process of machine quilting a couple of scrap tops that I pieced when I first got my sewing space set up.  All is good.
When Lynn was here there was a fund raiser for the community centre, Girls Night Out.  We had been invited by Maureen. The roads were a bit hazardous for a couple of city girls, but into town we went. The theme was a fashion show of wedding dresses through the ages.  They had 42 dresses from the 1930's to present day.  They finished the show with a traditional wedding outfit worn by women in India and the outfit Pat's great-grandmother Inga wore for her wedding in Sweden in the late 1800's.  A very nice evening.
As I mentioned it snowed while Lynn was here.  We went out for a walk and it was glorious.  Pat carried the camera and takes credit for these photos.

Renovations continue to progress.  A couple more light fixtures up and Pat is working on some trim today. The trim will make a huge difference, it will cover up the raw edges of the drywall and the rooms will lose their unfinished look.

I don't think I will ever tire of the sunsets that we see out the kitchen window.  Such incredible beauty.
I hope you don't either as there seems to be a photo that I have to include every other post.  This was last evening.

We really do live in The Land of Living Skies.

Notable Moments

We have had a couple notable moments since my last post. First, we did receive at least the 20 cm of snow  that was forecast for this area. On May 1st Pat put on his snowshoes and went for a walk.  I hid inside.  At times it was tough going because of the deep snow.

We woke up to minus 9 this morning.  I spotted this little guy and would check on him every now and then. He was so very still for a robin and I don't think I have ever seen one with it's feathers so puffed up. Conserving energy and trying to stay warm.  As the sun warmed him he started to turn his head and look around.  I do wonder what he found to eat today.  Somehow the bluejay doesn't look quite as pathetic.

I must admit there was a point yesterday when I was looking to put on my "ruby slippers" and click my heels.  I didn't really have any idea of where I wanted to go but it would be anywhere that it wasn't cold and snowing!

Today the second notable moment of this post.

This is my brand new wonderful water softener.  A bit sad to be so happy about such a thing but the water is very, very hard here.  I did dishes tonight and didn't have to wipe the residue out with vinegar. We will put a reverse osmosis unit in a bit later so will be set in the water department.
Last thought to share.  We found a great store called Carson's Carpet in Whitewood.  We had a look around and I'm sure we will be able to find flooring for the kitchen and upstairs.  It is much closer than Yorkton or Regina.  Also the Co-op carries espresso coffee grounds which I hadn't found in the grocery store in Esterhazy.  Small moments of happiness!

I Moved Here For the Weather

One of the reasons I like the country is you are in much closer proximity to the weather.  I have always loved storms, whether they are snowstorms or thunderstorms.  Today the old adage "be careful what you ask for" comes to mind.  We woke up to weather this morning.

It is 2:00 pm and it doesn't look much different, just more snow. The snowfall warnings for this part of the province remains in place.  I told Pat I would like to find a corner where I can't see outside and watch movies, knit and leave this snowy world at least temporarily.  I have a problem, no movies, no tv and the book I had put on my laptop to listen to has disappeared. I am resigned to painting and I hate painting, although there are some light fixtures that need some bits fixed.  That will be a change.  I could be in Borden right now with water lapping at my doorstep so enough whining!

We had a long but satisfying day yesterday.  A little day trip to Winnipeg.  The main focus was to check out Ikea kitchens.  We did that and were satisfied with what we saw.  We also picked up some bathroom hardware and two cupboard units for Zachary.  I managed to walk out of there with only a couple of non essential, but at least consumable items.  Believe it or not we rounded out our journey with time in Home Depot and Costco.  We were in big box/outlet stores hell or nirvana depending on your slant.  It was very interesting to drive into a new place and observe the amount of resources, (land, buildings, roads) devoted to the acquisition of material goods.   We left at 8:00am and arrived back at TO at 11:00 just as it was starting to snow.

We Have Arrived

April 22,2013

We arrived yesterday about 3:00 pm.  It was a miserable day, cold, windy and grey and I felt miserable because of my cold.  It was not so bad that I was looking for the do over button but there were moments.  A cup of tea with Pat looking out over the ravine helped.

213 is mostly packed waiting for the movers.

We will return on the 5th of May to finish up.  The movers arrive the 6th.  We had thought they would then come out on the 7th to unload but since our road looks like this, we are a little worried.

Today it is cold, last night a low of -12 C, but the sun is shining and there is no wind.  Not once did I think of looking for the do over button.  We finished painting the bedroom, first coat of paint in the bathroom, more tiling done and hot water on tap again.
