I Moved Here For the Weather

One of the reasons I like the country is you are in much closer proximity to the weather.  I have always loved storms, whether they are snowstorms or thunderstorms.  Today the old adage "be careful what you ask for" comes to mind.  We woke up to weather this morning.

It is 2:00 pm and it doesn't look much different, just more snow. The snowfall warnings for this part of the province remains in place.  I told Pat I would like to find a corner where I can't see outside and watch movies, knit and leave this snowy world at least temporarily.  I have a problem, no movies, no tv and the book I had put on my laptop to listen to has disappeared. I am resigned to painting and I hate painting, although there are some light fixtures that need some bits fixed.  That will be a change.  I could be in Borden right now with water lapping at my doorstep so enough whining!

We had a long but satisfying day yesterday.  A little day trip to Winnipeg.  The main focus was to check out Ikea kitchens.  We did that and were satisfied with what we saw.  We also picked up some bathroom hardware and two cupboard units for Zachary.  I managed to walk out of there with only a couple of non essential, but at least consumable items.  Believe it or not we rounded out our journey with time in Home Depot and Costco.  We were in big box/outlet stores hell or nirvana depending on your slant.  It was very interesting to drive into a new place and observe the amount of resources, (land, buildings, roads) devoted to the acquisition of material goods.   We left at 8:00am and arrived back at TO at 11:00 just as it was starting to snow.

Spring at Twin Oaks

Today is an absolutely gorgeous day.  We have been working but did take a break to sample a bit of spring in the country.  The melt has started; this is the view from the back step, as you stand there you can hear the water roaring through the ravine.

We decided a short break was in order and did a little exploring. The culvert under the road seems to be doing it's job. But more importantly we discovered the pussy willows are out!

The next photo is a still of the water moving through the bottom of a narrow channel.  We took a video of it but importing it into blogger did not seem to work.  Think of rapids and the sound they make when you look at the photo.

The road is drying out and it looks like there will not be a problem for the moving van, our fingers remain crossed!

At the End of the First Week

We have survived the first week and have managed to accomplish a fair bit.  We have the living room and dining room painted and have moved in the furniture we have out here. We are just going to have to move it out in a week but we really needed somewhere to sit and eat and we were tired of the island.

We have also been busy in the bathroom, the shower walls are tiled and grouted, still the floor to do but we ran out of the metal edge strips so will have to wait until we get more, the closest place that carry them is Yorkton!  We are off to Winnipeg on Monday so will actually get them there.  A little bit of scouting at Ikea for kitchen cupboards and a few other items that are only available in the big city.  We have painted the bathroom 3 times, I usually do ok with paint choices but messed up this time.  Again messing up involved two trips to Esterhazy.  We were right to budget lots of money for gasoline.

That's it for tonight we are both tired, tomorrow's agenda involves painting the bathroom again and hopefully installing the vanity and sink and then moving into the main floor bedroom.  Perhaps a walk.

We Have Arrived

April 22,2013

We arrived yesterday about 3:00 pm.  It was a miserable day, cold, windy and grey and I felt miserable because of my cold.  It was not so bad that I was looking for the do over button but there were moments.  A cup of tea with Pat looking out over the ravine helped.

213 is mostly packed waiting for the movers.

We will return on the 5th of May to finish up.  The movers arrive the 6th.  We had thought they would then come out on the 7th to unload but since our road looks like this, we are a little worried.

Today it is cold, last night a low of -12 C, but the sun is shining and there is no wind.  Not once did I think of looking for the do over button.  We finished painting the bedroom, first coat of paint in the bathroom, more tiling done and hot water on tap again.

April 20, 2013

I believe I have figured out how to handle the contact list.  You will have gotten an invite again!!  But, that should be the last time.  Packing day today and my cold is probably at it's zenith.  Snow forecast for today as well!  We are off tomorrow and will be back the 4th or 5th depending on our progress at TO.  The movers come the 6th of May ( have I said this before ).  I will send an update sometime after our arrival.

A Rough Start

April 19, 2013

I succumbed to an old option, turn it off and start over.  You will note a new blog address.  Who knows what will happen to the old one.
I am still going to do a little history but a brief one.  We were supposed to leave on the 20th but it will now be the 21st.  I have a terrible cold, Pat has trailer to fix and we have road and Tractor issues at the other end.  Also no hot water, but that apparently is easy to fix.

We started in 2002 with the idea of having a cottage overlooking a ravine.  Over the next six years we renovated, came to love our cottage. At that point we decided to try and figure out how we could live there permanently.

So we have gone from this:

To this.  I am going to post this before all is lost again!
